The project Iris 2003-05 investigates the disintegration of the memory due to Alzheimer disease. The disease has caused the artist’s mother the progressive loss of memory for the past twelve years. In this process, Matos establishes her relationship with her mother through a multiplicity of means like: photography, video and drawings that her mother made. The photography series Porcelana documents the different objects that relate to the life of two beings –mother and daughter– but in this work, operate in combination like a memento mori and vanitas. The video Iris is a selection of clips made by the artist during a period of three years of documentation. This video compiles the moments and memories of the therapy sessions, songs, sounds, conversations and the graphic art made by the artist’s mother .
